How Defining My Core Values Changed the Way I Build My Business

Last summer, I came across an intriguing book on personal communication skills. Always on a journey of self-improvement, I knew it would help me show up the way I wanted—in every area of my life.

What I didn’t expect was the impact of one particular chapter.

It challenged me to dig deeper into what truly matters. To move beyond surface-level goals and define the standards guiding my decisions.

That’s when I realized—my core values weren’t just personal.They were foundational.

They began shaping how I moved, how I chose, and how I showed up daily. Not just in life, but in how I operate overall.

And that’s when the shift happened.

As entrepreneurs, we don’t separate who we are from what we build.

Our personal standards inevitably show up in our businesses—whether we define them or not.

That realization felt like a moment of clarity.

When I started my business, I leaned into being multi-focused—pulling from all the skills I developed over time.

It worked.

But something about it felt off.

I wasn’t lacking capability.

I was lacking direction.

What I was creating didn’t feel as strong as it could be.

And I knew I wasn’t fully showing up where my strengths truly lived.

That’s when everything started to connect.

The same core values guiding my life were the ones missing from how I was building my business.

Core values aren’t just statements you write down and revisit occasionally. They’re the starting point.

They shape what you offer. How you show up.What you say yes to—and what you don’t.

They influence every layer, whether you realize it or not.

Because when your foundation is clear, everything built on top of it carries that clarity.

Over the next few weeks, I want to break down the standards that reshaped how I build—and how they might reshape the way you approach your own.

Not as a formula.

But as a way of working that actually holds.

Clarity first. Everything else follows.
